The Anthropology of Green: Fair Isle’s Fields and Moss

I was asked today, "Who is the most important person I ever met?" I answered: "That mountain." 🌍 World Premiere Welcome to Britain's Most Isolated Inhabited Island I, the land Now on Fair Isle, because of salt water, and clearings for sheep, there are no such things as trees. The life of wood, and how it shows growth, death, and rebirth, is just a souvenir. There is another kind of ecosystem here, and it works — a solitude, but not loneliness — and a general unwinding of the worlds we have known. The only thing to stand guard between the solitude and me are two defiant rocky mountains in the distance, as I look out of our kitchen window . Yet these rocks rock! Love it here — in all its stark splendor. I’ve had this saying: I haven't been everywhere, but it is on my list. Well, Fair Isle is North Of Everywhere.

See It Don't Just Say It

There’s something about the instant reach of YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook that has me hooked—this ability to capture and share the world exactly as it is. Ansel Adams, the great master of wilderness photography, put it best: “Only photographs can tell the truth.” And that truth is undeniable. Sure, storytelling invites embellishment. A good tale isn’t always tethered to strict facts, and I’m all for bending reality in service of a great narrative. But beauty and truth? They’re inseparable. The rolling waves, the mist hovering over a glassy pond, the dance of light across a moss-covered stone—these moments don’t need words. No tricks. No cinematic illusions. Just a camera, a scene, and time unfolding as it should. Point, shoot, and let nature speak. More sheeple Less People - Population 43 Posing for their glamor shot Cloud ...
