Flower Picking in the Isles of Scilly Flower Picking in the Isles of Scilly A day among the narcissi fields with a rag-tag crew of islanders Tried my hand at Flower Picking today. The crew I worked with were a rag tag bunch of guys with good stories and a variety of quirks and unique experiences that they willingly shared with me. One guy, Dan, a Boat Captain in the Summer season, said "Ámerican? Don't they do this on the chain gangs in Louisiana prisons...picking flowers I mean"... Apparently I got high marks as I lasted the full day...The back breaking work sometimes has people quit as quickly as 40 minutes! We took social distancing  to the nth degree and self isolated on Britain's most remote inhabited island , Fair Isle, population 45. Now 42 ,minus a dog named Skeylark too.  T he UAV can carry 100kg of mail of all sizes for a distance of 1,000km, and it was flown to our Fair Isle.  It  can fly in poor weather conditions, and if the trial is successful, the technology will be considered by Royal Mail.  A key aim is for the autonomous flights to reduce emissions compared to current delivery methods for a low carbon future.
